Sapphire –Nigeria - 2.30 cts - Ref. OSB/81
From a new discovery in Nigeria come these Mambilla river-worn stones. The stones show a strong blue colour down the ‘C’ axis and a lighter blue tinged with green down the ‘A’ axes. Some banding is evident in some material. The surface of the stone is quite rough so an accurate grading is not possible. However, I have graded them AA+ to AAA. Unlike many of the Sapphires from the earlier deposits in Mambilla, these stones show a lighter blue colour and very attractive gems can be cut from the rough. Sapphire, being very dichroic, is a difficult stone to photograph so photos have been taken in sunlight with different backgrounds to try to show the colours.
Graded AA+ - AAA and weighing 2.30 cts., the stone has a good shape.
