Vanadium Beryl (Emerald?) – Nigeria – 2.36 ct. Ref. AQ/185
There are two schools of thought regarding Vanadium Beryl. The Gemological Institute of America identifies it as ‘Emerald’ as does Switzerland, the Gemmological Association of Great Britain says ‘NO’. The Brazilian Vanadium Beryl deposits have produced some stunning gems, whilst the Nigerian material is a lot lighter in colour. Personally, I would refer to these stones as ‘Emerald’ if you consider the colour is dark enough and vanadium beryl for lighter stones. Just out of interest, we have included a few Nigerian Vanadium Beryls. They are all graded AA+-AAA and vary in degree of colour intensity.
